The Ministry of Works through its Tanzania Transportation Technology Transfer (TanT2) Centre, the Department of Safety and Environment, and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), the College of Engineering and Technology University of Dar es Salaam, the National Local Technical Assistance Program Association (NLTAPA) of USA and other local and international institutions is organising a 5 days Course on Road Safety Audit to be held in Dar es Salaam from 20th - 24th May 2013. The course programme includes videoconference seminar on RSA, which has been scheduled to take place on 23rd May 2013 from 16.00 to 19.00 hours.

Course Venue: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Description: This course provides participants with practical information on how to conduct a road safety audit. Participants learn how to improve transportation safety by applying a proactive approach that includes examination of a future or existing road. The course include hands-on application training materials which include information on Policies and Strategies on Road Safety; Introduction to Road Safety; Basic Road Safety Audit (RSA) Concepts; RSA Overview; and RSA Procedures. Each participant will receive training materials and have hands-on exercises. Certificates will be issued to successful participants upon completion of the course.

Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: i) Review the road safety situation in their respective countries; ii) Discuss RSA concepts; iii) Identify and explain steps for conducting RSA; iv) Perform RSA as a member of a Team; iv) Explain the way forward in addressing RSA related issues in their areas of jurisdiction.

Target Audience: The course is targeted to engineers practising in road safety, road designs, review of road designs, feasibility studies, road construction, upgrading and major rehabilitation works, supervision works, and road maintenance. Also, the course is suitable for consultants who carry out safety studies on roadway and its environment; vehicles; and human elements. The course language will be English.

Registration: Registration fee for the course is Tshs. 1,500,000/= for local participants and USD 1,000 for foreign participants to cover cost of tuition, training materials, a certificate of training, lunch and refreshments during the course and site visits. Online Registration

Participants will be required to make their own accommodation and travelling arrangements to and from the course. Upon request the TanT2 Centre can make accommodation bookings for participants. Individuals interested in attending the course on RSA are requested to complete the registration forms and return it to TanT2 Centre. Confirmation will be made upon receiving payments. The deadline is 30th April 2013.

Course Instructors: Subject-matter experts from the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), the College of Engineering and Technology, University of Dar es Salaam, the Ministry of Works, and the National Local Technical Assistance Program Association (NLTAPA) of USA will instruct the course.

Course Accreditation: The Course is accredited with the Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania. Registered Engineers are eligible to earn a total of 40 PDUs in his/her CPD Programme upon submission to the Board relevant duly filled CPD Logbooks.
